Badass and the Beast Anthology: Ten Authors. One Great Cause. Support Animal Welfare Institute

BadassTourBannerMay2015

Some of you know of my love for animals in general and dogs in particular. Some of you also know of my Immortals series and the shifters who populate my stories. Put the two things together and it was only natural that I would participate in the beast-themed anthology, Badass and the Beast: 10 “Tails” about Kickass Heroines and the Beasts Who Love Them. Plus, I know and highly respect a few of the fellow anthologists who donated their novelettes to this charity project. The ones I hadn’t met before, they’ve become favorites of mine after reading their stories.

And if you need another reason to buy the anthology,  know that all the proceeds from the sales will go to Animal Welfare Institute, a A+ organization rated by Charity Watch.

My contribution, Shifting Loyalties, is from The Immortal Youth world, a YA spinoff from the adult Immortals series. Laura, a runaway were-panther, lives a lonely life, stealing food when she isn’t scavenging dumpsters to survive. Constantly on the run, terrified that not only humans and paranormals predators, but also the Controller will catch up with her some day. Then she meets a huge Newfoundland dog and everything changes for Laura.

I have read all the stories in the anthology and as I mentioned earlier they are all exceptional. Fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, some old good paranormal, a tad of horror, and some underworld action, every genre is represented to please anyone’s taste. If  you want to know more about the talented authors who’ve contributed to the project, follow the links below. Before me, the lovely Kathrine Pendleton posted on her blog. Next in the blog tour will be Mikel Andrews on May, 11th.

J. L. Mbewe, Secrets Kept’s author, is my guest today, and her book could be yours by entering a Rafflecopter giveaway

In her words:

Writing as J. L. Mbewe, Jennette is an author, artist, mother, wife, but not always in that order. Born and raised in Minnesota, she now braves the heat of Texas, but pines for the Northern Lights and the lakes of home every autumn. She loves trying to capture the abstract and make it concrete.

She is currently living her second childhood with a wonderful husband and two precious children who don’t seem to mind her eclectic collections of rocks, shells, and books, among other things.

While living life balanced between reality and dreams, she is creating worlds inhabited by all sorts of fantasy creatures and characters, all questing about and discovering true love amid lots of peril.

For more information about her journey as a writer mama and all things creative please visit her blog.

Secrets Kept

“With a curse, she will build an army.
With the dagger, she will undo the last sacrifice.
But first the sorceress must find the secret keeper.
Torn from her homeland and thrust into a betrothal against her wishes, Ayianna learns her family has a deadly secret that now has her on the run. She joins forces with Kael, an embittered half-elf, and Saeed, an elderly High Guardian, to seek answers to her father’s death, the destruction of Dagmar, and the plains people’s bizarre behavior.
Ayianna discovers there is more at stake here than just her mother’s disappearance and her familial duty to her betrothed. The sorceress has cursed the plains people, and it is a race against time to release them before the sorceress resurrects an ancient evil.”

My 8 Questions for Jennette:

1. What was your favorite book when you were a teenager?

I devoured books when I was a teen, but a few that stood out were: The Sword of Shannara trilogy by Terry Brooks, Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, and Christy by Catherine Marshall

2. What was your favorite movie?

It’s hard to remember when I watched what back then, but some of my favorite movies were ones that carried over from my childhood such as Labyrinth, Willow, and The Neverending Story. I also LOVED The Three Musketeers.

3. Did you have an actor-crush?

Not really.

4. Did you already know you wanted to be an author?

When I was eight, I knew I wanted to be an author, but it didn’t take long for that dream to be swept under a rug and forgotten. I still did a lot of writing as a teen such as journaling, poems, a few attempts on novels.

5. What is your favorite genre to read?

Fantasy. Especially young adult.

6. Do you write in that genre?

Yes.

7. What do you like the most about writing YA?

I love the coming of age aspect and the characters’ figuring out their identity and dreams, and discovering true love along the way.

8. What are you working on?

I’m currently working on the second book in the Hidden Dagger Trilogy as well as a few short stories that will be released throughout the year, leading up to the second book’s release. No date set on that one yet.

Thanks for having me!

Thank you, Jennette! By the way, Secrets Kept’s cover looks amazing.

A Ripple in Time is back and with an offer you can’t refuse!

Lovely Sunday, everybody, from the Pacific Northwest. Today, my guest is Julia Hughes, a British author and a dear friend. Julia is one of those rare storytellers who are able to mix different genres in the same novel to create exquisite world building. From sweet romance, to dystopian and alternate realities, time travel, magic, a tad of paranormal, a hint of horror, griffins, sinking ships, and detective stories, she does it all, and exceedingly well.
Now, she has outdone herself. Performing the magic trick of the millennium, Julia Hughes will give the lucky winner of the A Ripple in Time giveaway the most incredible gift: a special edition of A Ripple in Time with the winner’s name in the Titanic’s passengers list!

A Ripple in Time: Synopsis

Celtic Cousin Wren makes a psychic connection with a girl emigrating to America in 1912. Through his eyes, she is able to foresee the fate of the ship taking her across the Atlantic.
Consequently, RMS Titanic steams safely into New York Harbour: an anomaly which creates devastation for future generations. Twenty-first century Britain still has an Empire, and World War One continues to ravage Europe.
Wren must somehow turn back time, and repair history; even if it means sacrificing everything he loves.

From the author, Julia Hughes:

An iconic image of the last century, the Titanic represents hope, ambition and tragedy. It also marks the beginning of the end of an era.  However, “A Ripple in Time” isn’t all about the Titanic. It’s about making unbearable decisions, taking chances and allowing faith, and love to grow.

About this book:

“A Ripple in Time” is a time travel romantic adventure. Protagonist Wren Prenderson was nominated for “Best Hero” in the E-Festival of Words 2013 Awards Hall, and voted by readers into joint second place.
“A Ripple in Time” has been newly re-edited for a smoother reading experience on your ebook reading device.
Available from all good virtual bookstores, including: Nook Books, from Amazon, WH Smith and Smashwords and in paperback from December 10.

WIN! A customised copy of “A Ripple in Time” FREE entry: unique to you, as your name will appear in print as a passenger on board RMS Titanic. Paperback to be released on December 16.
